The Seaworthies hadn’t played in years. It could be the described to be the equivalent of forever to their fans, which seem to be present and former residents of the Tri-Cities, Washington. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have fans elsewhere; however it does mean that I haven’t heard of them as much.
They’ve been around for a while and were part of the Pacific Northwest’s musical activities that were occurring around the early to mid-2000′s, playing with many Seattle/Portland musicians that are now have varying levels of success.
I had drove up from a week long visit in Portland with some old friends just to record this show. I asked Tara and Blaise if I could record the show for them since I’d be going to in anyway. There was this record of there’s I’d listened to periodically in the past few years that would open with the song “Hello Hello” that I would sing to myself in the same but separate frequency of listening. Since then I’d wanted to see them play a show but all I knew is that it probably wouldn’t happen.
Usually the following is what you least expect: When you’re in Poland, one of your best friends (that is also like family to you) is an old best friend of the Seaworthies and informs you that the band will be playing in two months.
It was a great show. Karaoke included.
It was a family reunion of sorts where people from the old Tri-Cities music scene came – friends that don’t go out so often in town or friends from Portand. It was a really big show for that reason. A band doesn’t play for three or so years, yeah, you’re going to have a big show. Another reason that I use the word big is not just due to the number of individuals in the crowd but also that the Seaworthies played in a big band. Apparently, back in the day, the band was just Tara and Blaise and it was fairly quiet and low-key but this show it included three additional members and enough power that I had to put earplugs in even in the back of the room.
And it sounded amazing!
