ALive Recording

The Anarchist Book Fair benefit was this event. You may recall the mentioning of this event from the World History recording.

I sat in the back of the room where the merch table was and spoke with my friend, Adam, who I hadn’t seen in a while. We were talking about So Many Dynamos and how much we love them. Then our other friend, Keenan, piped on on how much she loves that band with us. Then when I mentioned I knew someone who didn’t like them and thought they were emo, we started some hatin’. It may sound through this narration as dumb and pretentious but the situation was actually kind of funny. It was very Seinfeld.

When we terminated the conversation we began watching Calvin go through his set. He does an acoustic guitar style set (as seen in the photo) but if you ever get the chance to see him play as the Hive Dwellers, do it. He has a full band in that case and plays the songs that he would normally play solo. His set this night was great and during some songs of his, you’ll laugh. A silly laugh that indicates that you’re having fun. Personally, my favorite is “Sitting Alone at the Movies”.

This time was a bit weird for one reason: Calvin had done a monologue in the middle that at some point reached into the subject matter of Michael Jackson referencing Jackson’s demise, which occurred that week. I remember feeling a bit weird about it and still don’t know what to think of it. You’ll hear it, it happens about halfway through the set.
