Drew Danburry

From California to Utah- since the Summer of 2001- Drew Danburry has been making wonderful indie folk songs and insanely touring the US with a dash of Europe.
Drew spent most of his childhood growing up in Southern California where he started to make music early on in life. This wasn’t the kind of music that he would be heard performing within the last eight years; this was more of hip-hop gangster music. This music was mainly created while he was in high school, during which he released a cassette tape of music inspired by Easy-E that was performed with an organ and a regular keyboard. These hip-hop songs were not considered great with drew stating that “They were not good. I don’t even think they were funny.”
Drew soon departed the sunny state of California to live in Utah to resume his education. It was during his stay in Utah that He met Micah Dahl Anderson in 2001. Drew was awed by Micah’s songwriting abilities and after some convincing from Drew, Micah let Drew sing along at some of his shows. Some of these shows Drew was named “Dancing Drew” on account of the singing and dancing that he would do onstage.
Micah assisted Drew with recording a few songs, something that led to Drew asking Micah to start a band so that he he could better his songwriting. The band would be a go but Drew had to play the drums, something that blew his mind since he didn’t know he could actually play the drums. The band was called the Danburry’s and within the initial four months of this bands conception it had shuffled through numerous members that had a toll on the project as well as Drew’s songwriting. Burning out seemed imminent until Drew met a man by the name of Josh Rosenburg.
Josh suggested that Drew begin playing the guitar and pick up more of the slack of the band instead of continuing to play the keytar (this had been used so Drew wouldn’t only be singing on stage).
After a year Josh left the band but within that time Micah, Rob Myers (an original addition to the band), Josh, and Drew were able to put together a demo tape. They performed locally even after Josh left the band and at this point Drew become more proficient at the guitar along with his singing ability. Unfortunately the band broke up sometime after time Drew proposed that they start a tour.
So Drew decided to tour by himself.
There were a number of rough tours that entailed organizing a backing band and also selling homemade copies of his first album, “An Introduction to Sex Rock” he began to tour solo. In 2005 he re-released his album alongside his second album, “Besides: Are We Just Playing Around Out Here or Do We Mean What We Say?” This year was the beginning of him touring nationally with acts such as Lydia, The Robot Ate Me, and Aubrey Debauchery.
The year 2006, Drew went a bit crazy and toured seven months all around the United States in just about any nook and cranny that he could stuff himself into. For these seven months he toured with Harry and the Potters, Aubrey Debauchery, Taught Me, and Seve Vs. Evan. During this tour of insanity Drew also met a banjo playing chap by the name of Elliot Maldonado and the two self-booked/promoted a two month long European tour. This newish act was now called Drew Danburry/Fatal Fury and the Lasercats.
Following this tour was a live album that Drew released in 2007 called “Live in France!” He released this and sold this new beauty on another set of tours that he did with seven more bands: Lilu Dallas, Big Big Car, Jacob Smigel, The Robot Ate Me, Aubrey debauchery, Riesage, and Iji. This was also followed by an indefinite hiatus from touring. This was a much needed time to recoup physically, financially, and emotionally.
At this time Drew moved himself from Utah back to his old home in Southern California. Even within his monetary restraints he released a six song EP titled called “Mother” that was quietly released near the end of 2007.
Then- in 2008- Drew signed onto the record label Emergency Umbrella and fired up his touring gears to spend just about half of the year touring and promoting his new EP and full length album “This Could Mean Trouble, You Don’t Speak for the Club.” Yet for this tour Drew had an official band to play with him but unfortunately financial constraints cut this tour to being only two weeks long. For most of the remainder of the year Drew toured alone.
Drew presently is continuing to tour and probably has no intention of ending it anytime soon. In this fine year of 2009 he will be touring with such fantastic acts as Emperor X, Ryland Bouchard, and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
