Cold Lake – 12/12/2009

Cold Lake

This show was what believe to be Cold Lake’s second show. The night before I saw them play at a house show in Bellingham, Washington with I, Cordyceps and Junk Bones. From what I’ve gathered, the band has been practicing since this last October.

Cold Lake is a combination of friends who met Bellingham, Washington, around the early 2000’s. Members of the band consist of Corey Brewer (vocals, jokes), James Burns (guitar), Clyde Petersen (bass), and Jeff Mitchell (drums). In two months time Cold Lake has composed songs that are of such a level of intensity that it would be highly advised to wear proper earplugs.

This night took place in another house, the New Crompton. The living room was packed with friends and a few strangers and cop stopped by at some point during the night not to stop the show but to tell us that the show had to end by 11:00. For this particular show to be Cold Lake’s second show, it rocked even harder than the night before with an incredibly amount of musical solidarity and well done equalization of instruments.

There were a couple of dudes that showed up, apparently neighbors. There was a comment that I personally didn’t hear but apparently what was heard by everyone else in the room was “… communist faggots…” What I was later told was that it was intended to be a joke and part of a complete phrase that I can’t recall at this time. I’m not sure of what form of humor that would be… eh, humorous but it wasn’t. You’ll hear comments from James and Corey in reaction to the partial phrase (although you can’t really hear the phrase yourself).

This recording is part one of a three part live recording series also featuring I, Cordyceps and Council of Lions.
