SWAP IT SPIN IT BRING IT SCREEN IT (seattle)

Last year, on the second weekend of December, Hollow Earth Radio hosted an event that was referred to as the Holiday Record Swap. I was elsewhere in the country but wished very much that I could attend the event. This year, however, I have the opportunity to attend the event and experience a hopefully more intense experience than what I was told of it last year. This year the event is called Swap It, Spin It, Bring It, Screen It.

Math the Band

Please picture this for one moment: a keyboard and drum factories both blow up at the same time, propelling multiples of each instrument into the air… About five seconds later, a plane carrying a gong drops it’s payload. All these instruments land- intact- into a school playground where thirty kindergartners on massive sugar highs then merge and begin playing wildly on the instruments. The story behind this show goes like this:
Chris Adolf wanted to play a house show in Seattle. I asked a few friends if they could host Bad Weather California but found out that Olympia was as good as they could get. I was able to get a hold of Josh Vanek who has been part of organizing Total Fest for the past eight years. It took a bit of timing too in …

iji [video]

Whatever state the music and DIY scene is in Vancouver, Canada, I am unclear of what it would be. One night is hardly enough to really investigate it thoroughly but from what I gathered, things are pretty underground in regards to shows put on.
If there are any public spaces that put on events usually they tend to not run for long since they become shut down. Not knowing the specifics on these places, whether they are mostly word of mouth or places attempting to be legitimate all-ages spaces, in certain …

Ladyfest Bellingham

Ladyfests have been occurring for a while since it’s original inception in August 2000 in Olympia, Washington. In the years since, it has been an locally organized in communities nationally to internationally from Honolulu, Hawaii to Mexico to Toulouse, France and to Johannesburg, South Africa. This year a Ladyfest will blossom out from the quaint college town of Bellingham, Washington.
The whole idea surrounding Ladyfest is empowerment for women, queer, and women identifying individuals in a hetero-male dominated society. The music scene is definitely full of that culture where there are …
