Blanket Truth
Blanket Truth, the musical project of Jon Manning, is a cute indie pop/folk band based in Seattle Washington. Live, the band generally consists of anyone Jon can pull out of a hat and politely command to play an auxiliary instrument such as a electric guitar, recorder, and anything that can be hit with a stick. With Jon on Baritone Ukulele and friend, Elijah, a professional beat-boxer; the band has the sound that will swoon the audience into delivering sweet sweet air kisses. The bands lyrics are fun and boisterous, giving out positive vibes that are similar to the variety that elementary kids emit… You know, before they begin their short process of becoming tainted by the world (i.e. middle school).
Inspired by the love for Casiotone for the Painfully Along and the Mountain Goats, Jon found that it is indeed possible to create a band with as few musical instruments as possible, elbow grease, and simple recording devices such as tape cassettes, answering mahchines, and cats. Perhaps this low-budget and makeshift/DIY way of creating music is what inspired Jon to start his own tape oriented label, Lost Sound Tapes. This label has released albums for bands like; iji, Red Pony Clock, and Your Heart Breaks. as well as tapes/CD’s on other labels Now Hereness Records and Sanitary Records.
The the most recent East coast tour the band (Jon & Elijah) had involved bussing and sharing rides to the different venues they played at. Both economically feasible, environmentally sound, and adventure filled as hell. At this time, for tour purposes, the band consisted of only a baritone ukulele and Elijah’s beat-boxing.
